EigenLayer’s X account was hacked on October 18th, posting a fake airdrop campaign. The post directed eligible users from previous campaigns to a malicious link, which was unrelated to EigenLayer’s recovery protocol.
The post was deleted within minutes after going viral, suggesting that the hacker may have lost access to the account.
Onchain investigator ZachXBT warned users on Telegram about the malicious airdrop link, advising them not to click on it. Given EigenLayer’s popularity, the link could have attracted many users.
EigenLayer is the second-largest protocol on Ethereum, with a TVL of over $11.1 billion according to DeFiLlama.
Previously, after a long airdrop period (around 3-4 months), the $EIGEN token began preparing for listing on major exchanges like Binance, OKX, Bybit, and eventually launched.
This caused many airdrop recipients to eagerly anticipate the token’s listing, and it seems the $EIGEN price has met the community’s expectations, with little negative feedback.
